Baby massage

How soon can I start baby massage?

You are invited to join a 5 week course at jojo Baby Massage when your baby is around 4-6 weeks

Can they have massage just after vaccinations?

The overriding principle is to be guided by your baby.  Some babies need lots of cuddles after vaccinations, others more sleep and some love massage - in this case we would avoid the vaccination area

What if my baby is sleeping during the sessions?

It's important for your little one to sleep as much as they need and as we don't massage sleeping babies, I can show you the strokes on my demo doll. This way you'll know what the strokes feel like before you go home and try plus I have some printed flyers with easy to follow steps to take away each week

My baby is cluster feeding, am I still ok to attend?

Absolutely! The sessions are entirely baby-led so I encourage feeding if they're getting hungry. You're welcome to feed in the room or if you'd prefer, you can use the venue's facilities and I will make sure you have a cuppa and some cake to keep you going.

My baby is starting to crawl, are they too big to come along?

This is tricky to answer as generally say a pre-crawling baby is easier to massage. So, it is completely your choice, we can go through various positions and adaptations to make sure both you and little one are comfortable and happy and benefit from the session.

How many babies/parents are on one course?

On my courses, I take a maximum of ten babies this helps to provide a calmer space for massage it also means I'm able to give my fullest attention to everyone in the room. Grandparents and other carers are welcome, older siblings are generally best not to come, this allows you to focus completely on your baby.

Why is it a 5-week course and not a one-off session?

The 5-week course give both you and your little one the time to slow down, adjust to a new setting and to learn the sequence of baby massage. This couldn't all be done in just one session with an unpredictable baby! The five consecutive weeks are also there to help you feel more at ease by seeing familiar faces each week and creating a little community from the group, chance to chat, eat cake and for me to have a cuddle with your baby!

My baby has a medical condition, can we still take part in baby massage?

Baby massage is completely adaptable and suitable to the needs of all babies. If you have any questions around this, please feel free to get in touch and I'll do my best to help answer them.

What if I can’t attend for one week?

Over the weeks we introduce new body parts to focus on, we recap all the strokes learnt from previous weeks, you won’t be left behind! However, I completely understand if you are unable to attend one week so I can give you a couple of options. 1. Feel free to ‘gift’ your session to a friend and baby, just email me and let me know. 2. Up to 2 missed classes, please just contact me and I will suggest another class date for you to attend. 3, If you are unable to bring your baby then ask a friend/family member to join us, again just let me know in advance.

Sorry I am unable to issue refunds for missed sessions.

Do I need to bring anything?

On week one I will provide you with a gift… a brand-new muslin cloth, a container of organic sunflower oil (specifically for babies) helps if you bring these each week. I then have heavenly soft floor mats for your baby. So, just bring your normal nappy-changer bag in case you need to change/feed them. The venue has excellent facilities for changing/ heating bottles etc.

Is there somewhere to park my pram?

There's space in the entrance hall to park up.

If you have any question not answered here, please get in touch.
